Dialogus1685 Presents Groundbreaking Bach Concert at Historic Edington Priory Church

Music enthusiasts are invited to experience Johann Sebastian Bach’s works reimagined during the Dialogus1685 concert at Edington Priory Church on Saturday, March 7. The event runs from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, offering a unique evening of Baroque mastery.

Artistic Vision Meets Historical Significance

Curated and performed by acclaimed musicians Andrew Arthur (harpsichord) and Rachel Stroud (Baroque violin), the program showcases Bach’s innovative approach to instrumental dialogue. As noted in The Oxford Journal of Music, Bach’s late sonatas represent “a pinnacle of contrapuntal writing for keyboard and strings.”

Program Highlights

The concert features:

  • Two of Bach’s mature sonatas (BWV 1014-1019)
  • Contrasting dance movements from his suites
  • Insightful commentary from the performers

Arthur and Stroud will demonstrate Bach’s revolutionary treatment of harpsichord and violin as equal partners – a concept explored in Laurence Dreyfus’ authoritative work Bach and the Patterns of Invention (Harvard University Press).

Practical Information

Ticket prices range from £11 to £20, with three seating categories available. The full program can be viewed at Edington Arts’ official website, which also handles secure online bookings.
