Swindon Food Hygiene Ratings Revealed: Top Performers and New Inspections Ahead

Over a dozen Swindon food establishments have received updated hygiene ratings in recent inspections by Swindon Borough Council’s environmental health team, with several more businesses scheduled for visits in coming weeks. The ratings, published on the Food Standards Agency’s official platform, provide transparency about food handling standards across the city.

Five-Star Excellence

Several venues achieved perfect 5/5 scores demonstrating exemplary standards:

The Lydiard Beefeater (inspected January 6) scored “very good” in food safety management and hygienic handling, with “good” facility cleanliness. Similarly, Hall and Woodhouse at Wichelstowe (January 13) and GXO Iceland’s staff canteen (January 27) earned top marks across all categories.

Pizza Hut in Greenbridge Retail Park (January 15) received maximum points with “very good” in all areas, while YC Global Buffet (January 16), Moredon Fish Bar, and The Cakehole (both January 22) scored “good” across all criteria. Jolly Rodger Adventure and Mr Kebab also achieved 5/5 ratings with notably “very good” cleanliness scores.

High Achievers

Studley Grange Garden Centre’s café (January 5) earned a strong 4/5 rating, praised for “good” food safety management and handling, with “satisfactory” facilities cleanliness.

Fiesta De Cuba (January 15) also received 4/5, recognized for “very good” food handling despite “generally satisfactory” scores in other categories.

Meeting Standards

Chennai Dosa on Victoria Road (January 7) received a 3/5 (“Generally Satisfactory”) rating. Inspectors noted “good” food handling practices despite lower scores in management and facility cleanliness that brought down the overall mark.

Establishments Awaiting Inspection

Several venues will soon receive visits from inspectors to determine their ratings:

  • The Ridge Bar and Grill (Greenbridge)
  • The Well Church (North Swindon)
  • Suvai Express (Manchester Road)
  • Eddies Kitchen (Priory Road East)
  • Sims Catering (Old Town)
  • M4 Express Master Boba (Victoria Road)
  • Howies Bakehouse and Bar (Wood Street)
  • Mobile caterer Knockout Sips

Understanding Food Hygiene Ratings

Swindon Borough Council conducts inspections using the Food Standards Agency’s nationally standardized framework. Ratings (0-5) reflect performance in three critical areas: food safety management, hygienic handling, and facility cleanliness. These evaluations help consumers make informed choices while encouraging businesses to maintain high standards. All ratings are publicly available on the FSA’s official website.

Note: Specific category details for Mog Asu‘s 5/5 rating weren’t available in published reports at time of writing, though the top-tier score indicates compliance with all essential requirements.
