Predator Posing as Taxi Driver Gets 15-Month Sentence
How the Night Turned into a Nightmare
A Nottingham Trent University student accepted what she thought was a taxi ride home after a night out in Nottingham city center. Instead, Kelvin Ndoro (41) drove her to a deserted supermarket parking lot, locked the car doors, and sexually assaulted her.
The Terrifying Escape
When Ndoro drove in the opposite direction of her home, the student sensed danger. During the assault, she secretly recorded Ndoro’s actions on her phone—evidence that became crucial later. When he momentarily unlocked the doors to force her into the back seat, she seized her chance, fleeing the car and hiding behind a wall until a group of young men came to her aid.
Judge Slams Predatory Actions
In court, Judge Mark Watson condemned Ndoro’s “predatory behavior,” rejecting his attempt to blame the victim based on her clothing. “Your actions contribute to why women feel unsafe when alone,” the judge stated, emphasizing that perpetrators “will be dealt with seriously.”
Victim’s Lasting Trauma
The student shared her ongoing struggle: she no longer feels safe in Nottingham and battles feelings of embarrassment for accepting the ride. “I should’ve known better,” she wrote—a self-blame experts say predators exploit.
Consequences and Community Heroes
Ndoro received a 15-month prison term, 10 years on the sex offender registry, and a decade-long sexual harm prevention order. Judge Watson praised the bystanders who helped the victim, calling them “the other side of humanity.”
Safety Takeaway for Teens
This case highlights critical safety steps:
- Only use licensed taxis or trusted ride-shares
- Share your location with friends
- Trust your instincts—if something feels wrong, act
Remember: No clothing choice or decision “invites” assault—only predators are responsible for their actions.
