Ipswich Taxi Landmark: Avenue Taxis and CabsSmart Unite Under Veezu Banner

A significant consolidation has reshaped the private hire landscape in Ipswich, as two of the town’s most recognised taxi operators, Avenue Taxis and CabsSmart, have completed their acquisition by the Cardiff-based Veezu Group and officially rebranded.

This strategic merger unites decades of local heritage with a rapidly expanding national platform, creating a enhanced regional service for passengers across Suffolk.

Legacy Meets Modern Scale: The Companies Behind the Merger

Avenue Taxis brings a profound local legacy, having served the Ipswich community continuously since its establishment in 1955. Its history is intertwined with the town’s growth, providing trusted transport for daily commutes, school runs, and airport transfers for generations of families.

CabsSmart, while a more contemporary operator, has built a strong reputation for technology-driven service and reliability. By combining their operations under the Veezu brand, the new entity leverages Avenue’s deep-rooted community trust and CabsSmart’s operational efficiency to form a comprehensive service network.

The unified service now extends seamlessly across Ipswich, Kesgrave, Woodbridge, and Felixstowe, offering residents and visitors a single, consistent point of contact for all private hire needs in the region.

Strategic Expansion in East Anglia

This development is a cornerstone in Veezu’s deliberate strategy to build a dense network of regional hubs across the UK. The Ipswich integration significantly strengthens Veezu’s existing footprint in East Anglia, complementing its well-established operations in Cambridge and Norwich.

For the region, this means access to a larger, more coordinated fleet and booking infrastructure, potentially reducing wait times and improving service coverage in outlying towns and villages.

Veezu’s National Growth with a Local Focus

Founded in 2013, Veezu has experienced explosive growth to become a major player in the UK’s private hire sector. The group now facilitates over 25 million passenger journeys annually, a figure that underscores its market penetration and operational scale.

Despite this national trajectory, Veezu’s leadership consistently emphasises that its business model is built upon empowering local operators and drivers. The acquisition strategy is framed not as a homogenising corporate takeover, but as a partnership that provides local businesses with the technological backbone, marketing reach, and support systems of a national group.

Leadership Vision: Bridging Local and National

Nathan Bowles, Chief Executive of Veezu, publicly acknowledged the intrinsic value of the acquired brands. “CabsSmart and Avenue Taxis are highly respected local operators with deep community ties and a reputation for quality service,” stated Bowles. He positioned the merger as a symbiotic evolution, stating: “These acquisitions by Veezu represent our commitment to investing in a stronger regional network that supports seamless travel across East Anglia.”

Bowles elaborated on the core philosophy: “Veezu’s expansion in this area reflects our long-term commitment to building a truly national network of local hubs across the UK, while continuing to deliver the reliable, community-focused service passengers depend on every day.” This statement directly addresses the critical balance between achieving economies of scale and preserving the trusted, personal service that defines successful local taxi firms.

The rebranding in Ipswich is therefore presented as an enhancement—retaining the local knowledge and driver relationships that built the original businesses, while upgrading the backend systems, app functionality, and cross-regional connectivity for the modern passenger.
