Four-Year Sentence for Midnight Uber Robbery with Knife Threat

A resident of Papworth Everard has been sentenced to four years in prison following a violent robbery in which he threatened an Uber driver with a knife in the early hours of the morning. The case, which concluded at Huntingdon Law Courts, underscores the serious legal consequences of weapon-related crimes and the swift justice system response to such incidents.

The offender, Jason Edgar, 40, had summoned a private hire vehicle (PHV) to Riverside Road in Huntingdon just after midnight on November 28. What began as a routine ride request rapidly escalated into a terrifying ordeal for the driver, a man in his 40s, who found his life in immediate danger.

Details of the Terrifying Ordeal

According to court proceedings, Edgar first attempted to pull the driver from his seat. When that proved difficult, he climbed into the backseat and pressed a knife blade directly against the driver’s throat. Under this extreme duress, the victim was ordered to deactivate the vehicle’s CCTV system—a critical move that would later hinder the investigation but was complied with under threat.

Edgar then forced the driver to begin a journey toward Cambourne. Upon reaching Ermine Street South, the assailant declared his intent to steal the car and demanded the keys. Fearing for his life, the driver surrendered the vehicle and managed to walk away to a safe location to call for emergency assistance.

Rapid Police Response and Arrest

The police response was notably swift. Using the information provided, officers located Edgar in the early morning hours at School Lane in Cambourne, where he was arrested without further incident. This rapid apprehension was pivotal in securing the evidence needed for prosecution.

On Friday, March 13, at Huntingdon Law Courts, Edgar entered a guilty plea to charges of robbery and possession of a knife. The presiding judge handed down a four-year custodial sentence, reflecting the gravity of using a weapon to instigate a carjacking and the profound fear inflicted upon the victim.

Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu, the investigating officer, commended the victim’s composure under pressure and the efficiency of the police operation. “This was a frightening experience for the victim, and his quick thinking in getting to safety was crucial,” DC Radulescu stated. He added, “I hope this sentence reassures the public that there is zero tolerance for anyone who carries a weapon or threatens violence in our communities. We will pursue robust action against those who do.”
