A new initiative is set to transform the UK’s iconic black cab into a mobile first-aid station. The London EV Company (LEVC), manufacturer of the TX taxi, has announced a partnership with the charity RAPAID Emergency Bandages to distribute over 5,000 life-saving trauma kits across the nation’s taxi fleet, with installation beginning in July 2026.
More Than 5,000 Life-Saving Kits to Be Distributed Through TX Taxi Network from July 2026
Under the agreement, every new and approved used TX taxi supplied through LEVC’s national dealer network will be fitted with a RAPAID emergency bandage kit. This strategic move places critical, easy-to-use medical equipment directly into vehicles that form the backbone of urban and regional transport across the UK.
The rollout is designed for seamless integration. Kits will be installed at the point of sale by LEVC retailers, and each participating vehicle will display a distinctive window sticker. This visual marker alerts the public that the taxi carries vital emergency equipment, effectively creating a recognisable network of mobile first-aid points in towns and cities nationwide.
Why Taxis? The Strategic Advantage of Mobile Response
Taxi drivers are uniquely positioned for this public safety role. They operate continuously on road networks, often in high-footfall areas where incidents can occur. With many taxis running on near 24-hour schedules, they provide potential coverage in locations and at times where fixed emergency equipment may be scarce. This initiative leverages an existing, pervasive mobility network for community resilience.
RAPAID’s specialised kits are engineered for simplicity under pressure. They contain bandages designed to stem severe bleeding—a leading cause of preventable death from trauma—within the crucial “golden minutes” before professional medical help arrives. The charity’s focus is on empowering any bystander to take immediate, effective action.
Scaling a Proven Model Through Automotive Infrastructure
This partnership represents a significant scaling of RAPAID’s work. The charity has already successfully placed kits in cities including London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford, and Exeter. By utilising LEVC’s structured national dealer network and vehicle supply chain, the deployment can achieve unprecedented consistency and reach, moving from a project-based model to an integrated standard feature.
LEVC brings over a century of automotive heritage to this effort, having built its first taxi in 1908. The modern TX, its fully electric, purpose-built model, has achieved global sales exceeding 12,000 units. The company states this initiative aligns with its broader mission of providing purposeful urban mobility solutions that benefit the communities its vehicles serve.
The collaboration highlights a growing trend where transport assets are integrated into public health and emergency preparedness strategies. While the announcement does not stipulate mandatory first-aid training for drivers, it introduces a new layer of community responsibility and readiness for fleet operators and individual licence holders.
Dan Cross, National Sales Director at LEVC, emphasised the community trust in the TX: “TX taxis are trusted vehicles operating at the heart of communities across the UK. By supporting RAPAID and making these life-saving bandage kits available through our dealer network, we’re helping ensure that drivers can play an important role in community safety and emergency response.”
Alexander Chivers, Managing Director of RAPAID, underscored the urgency of the mission: “It made perfect sense to put these bandage kits onto taxi cabs that are constantly moving in and out of our community day and night. A severe haemorrhage can be fatal within minutes, so the quicker treatment begins the better your chances of survival. We are delighted to be working with LEVC to expand the reach of RAPAID across the UK.”
