Tragic Loss on the A4 Prompts Renewed Safety Concerns
The Wiltshire community is mourning the loss of Cameron Thomas, a 32-year-old husband, father, and beloved local figure, who died in a collision on the A4 at Fyfield, near Marlborough, at approximately 3:30pm on Saturday, February 21.

A Family’s Heartbreak
In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Thomas’s family described being left “absolutely heartbroken” by his sudden and tragic passing. They remembered him as an “amazing ray of sunshine,” a much-loved husband and father whose passion for his young family knew no bounds.
“His humour, kindness and care for others will be sorely missed by everyone,” the family said. “We would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt support during this devastating time. Our lives are so much darker now. Rest in peace our amazing ray of sunshine.”
A Pillar of the Local Community
Beyond his family, Cameron Thomas was a well-known and respected figure in Marlborough, serving as the general manager at The Marlborough Inn on the High Street. The pub’s management stated he profoundly shaped the establishment and its community, noting he was “deeply respected, hugely admired and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.”
Renewed Focus on Road Safety
This fatal incident has reignited long-standing local concerns regarding the safety and speed of the A4 west of Marlborough, a stretch of road leading toward Avebury that many residents have previously labelled as “dangerous.”
East Wiltshire MP Danny Kruger has called for a formal review of speed limits on this key route. Expressing his deep sorrow, Mr. Kruger stated, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the death of Cameron Thomas on the A4. The pain his family must be in is unimaginable.”
“I don’t know what happened exactly, but I do know that the A4 west of Marlborough is too fast and too dangerous,” he continued. “I have been raising this issue on behalf of local residents for years and surely it’s time for a proper review of speeds on this road. The Police and Crime Commissioner and I have been in contact today and we will talk in more detail later this week. Meanwhile, all my sympathies are with the grieving family and friends of Mr Thomas.”
Investigation Ongoing
Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Authorities are urging any witnesses or individuals who may have captured relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
