Chippenham Town lose five-goal thriller to Tonbridge Angels

A Wild Ride in National League South

Tonbridge Takes an Early Lead

After a tough loss to Salisbury, Chippenham was ready to bounce back, but Tonbridge had other plans. The visitors came out strong and scored in just the third minute. A cross from the far side caused a deflection, and Noah McCann pounced to slot it home, putting Tonbridge up 1-0.

Chippenham Grinds Back

Chippenham didn’t panic. They started to control the game, with Caine Bradbury and Freddie Grant getting chances, but neither could beat the keeper. Then, in the 13th minute, captain Luke Haines showed his class. He met a loose ball on the half-volley and fired it past Louie Shala to make it 1-1. What a strike!

End-to-End First Half Action

The game kept swinging both ways. Chippenham looked dangerous in attack, but goalkeeper Will Henry was on fire for Tonbridge, making several key saves to keep things level. But just before the break, Tonbridge struck again. From a set piece, Ethan Sutcliffe found space and scored to make it 2-1. Chippenham responded right before halftime with a brilliant cross from Lewis Colwell. Ezio Touray leapt highest and headed it in, tying the game at 2-2. What a half!

Second Half Drama Unfolds

The second half was just as intense. Both teams created chances, and Henry continued his heroics with a string of fine saves. In the 57th minute, Tonbridge took the lead for the third time. A cross from the right found Alfie Pavey, who finished low to make it 3-2.

Chippenham’s Last-Gasp Push

As the clock wound down, Chippenham threw everything forward. Billy Phillips, Will King, Harry Parsons, and Olaf Koszela all had shots on goal. Touray came close with an acrobatic effort that was just off-target. Despite late substitutions and constant pressure, the Bluebirds couldn’t find an equalizer. Tonbridge held on for the win.

Where Does This Leave Chippenham?

Chippenham is still at the bottom of the table, but they’re only four points from safety in a crowded relegation battle. Since Christmas, Gary Horgan’s team has shown they can compete with anyone in the sixth tier. This match proved they never give up, even when the odds are against them.
