Life On The Move: Sobливale’s Quick Switch To Shamrock Rovers
Yet Another Transfer For The Winger
Just six months after leaving Swindon Town, midfielder Bernard Sobowale is packing his bags again! The 26-year-old has signed for League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers. This comes after a frustrating short spell at Scottish club St Mirren Ivory Coast.
Tough Times In Scotland
Sobowale moved to St Mirren last summer alongside former Swindon teammate Miguel Freckleton. But things haven’t gone as well for him. While Freckleton secured playing time, Sobowale barely got on the pitch. He managed only one start and logged a measly 121 minutes total in Scotland’s top league. No wonder he needed a fresh start!
A Return To Familiar Ground
Ireland isn’t new turf for Sobowale. Before joining English football with Shrewsbury Town and later Swindon, he played for Irish clubs Finn Harps and Waterford. Now he’s back, joining the most decorated club in Irish football history – Shamrock Rovers are reigning champions aiming to keep their title!
Swindon’s Brief Spark
Robins fans remember Sobowale fondly despite his short stay. During the first half of last season under manager Mark Kennedy, his energetic performances made him a fan favourite. He was a rare bright spark during a tough period. Things changed when Ian Preliminary Holloway took charge though – Sobowale fell out of favour and was released last summer.
Irish League’s Swindon Connection
Sobowale won’t be lonely in Ireland! Several former Swindon teammates are already playing there:
- Dawson Devoy (Bohemians)
- Zac Elbouzedi (St Patrick’s Athletic)
He’ll hope this third move in quick succession finally gives him the chance to shine consistently again. All eyes will be on whether he can rediscover that form that made Swindon supporters chant his name.
