Swindon Greenlights New Sports Hub for Wichelstowe

Swindon Borough Council has officially approved plans for the Wichelstowe Community Sports Hub. The hub will be built on a site along East Wichel Way, bridging East Wichel and the growing Wichelstowe neighborhood.

Designed for Sport, Play, and Wellbeing

The council’s vision centers on creating a space where everyone can get active and relax. The hub is split into three unique zones, each with its own vibe and purpose.

Zone 1: Main Access Area (North)

Right off East Wichel Way near Foxham Way, this zone is the hub’s main entrance. It features:

  • A big car park
  • A pavilion with changing rooms
  • An all-weather football pitch (plays rain or shine!)
  • Smaller multi-use pitches for quick games
  • A peaceful countryside walking trail
  • A learn-to-ride circuit for kids learning bikes
  • A bike hire and fix-up spot
  • A pétanque or boules playing area
  • Outdoor seating to chill with friends

Zone 2: Natural Sport and Play Area (South)

Just south of Zone 1, this zone brings nature and play together:

  • Two full-size grass football fields that can be rearranged for different sports and age groups
  • A huge children’s play area split into fun zones:
    • Equipment for younger and older kids
    • A skate circuit for boards and scooters
    • A quiet spot to sit and hang out
