A303 Shut After Truck Overturns Spilling Fruit and Diesel
Crash Happens Early Saturday Morning
Around 7:15 am on Saturday, February 21, a large truck hauling fruit and vegetables crashed on the A303 between Chicklade and Mere. The truck hit the roadside barrier and flipped onto its side, completely blocking both lanes of the major road.
Police Arrest Driver for Suspected Drink Driving
By 2:45 pm, Wiltshire Police confirmed they arrested the driver on suspicion of drink driving after the collision. Luckily, no one had serious injuries, but the driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution and is now in police custody.
Traffic Diverted Around the Crash Site
With the A303 closed, drivers were redirected through the A350 and B3081 to avoid the area. This caused significant delays as cleanup and recovery work began.
Clean-Up Crews Tackle Spills and Debris
Diesel and Mud Spill Contained
The crash caused a large spill of diesel and mud across the road. Special teams used specific materials to treat the diesel spill and cleared all the mud and debris from the carriageway.
Truck Load Removed
