Calne Man Arrested After Violent Social Media Post Sparks Community Concern

A man camping in Calne’s Castlefields Park has been arrested following a deeply disturbing social media post that made explicit threats of murder and sexual violence. The incident has prompted a strong response from local police and the community, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in the town’s public spaces.

Threatening Post and Immediate Police Response

The suspect, who identifies as a “caveman” and has been residing in Castlefields Park, published a now-deleted post on Thursday, 26 March. Titled “global peedophile revolution,” the post contained statements where the individual claimed to be “completely able and content to commit murder” and made graphic threats about committing rape, including against deceased individuals and entire families. The post also included an invitation for police and what he termed “peedo worriers” to confront him.

This post emerged after Wiltshire Police had already served the man with a Community Protection Warning. This legal tool is used to address persistent anti-social behaviour that is causing harassment, alarm, or distress to the public. The warning was issued in response to concerns raised by residents about his conduct in the park.

Community and Institutional Alerts

The situation drew formal attention from local institutions. Calne Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Mark Cook emphasized the force’s commitment to safe public spaces, stating: “Our parks and open spaces should be safe and welcoming for everyone, especially for women and girls. When behaviour causes others to feel uncomfortable or discourages them from using these spaces, we will take appropriate action.”

Furthermore, Marden Vale CE Academy, located near the park, proactively sent a warning letter to parents in recent weeks. The letter advised families about reported incidents in Castlefields Park, underscoring the level of community unease and the coordination between schools and police in safeguarding children.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

On Friday, 27 March, Wiltshire Police arrested the suspect in connection with the social media post. A force spokesperson confirmed the arrest, noting: “We were made aware of a concerning social media post that is currently circulating, after it was brought to our attention by one of our schools. Today (27/03), an arrest has been made in connection with this matter.” The investigation remains active as authorities review the evidence and determine appropriate next steps.

This case illustrates the serious legal consequences of making threats of violence online, even if posted from a makeshift dwelling. It also demonstrates the critical role of community vigilance and institutional communication in prompting swift law enforcement action.
